the Litlle Lands Story
Little Lands began in the simplest of ways — with my children, a few cloths, and a whole lot of imagination.
When my oldest was just a toddler, I noticed something magical: she was drawn to blankets and cloths in a way I never expected. She folded them, wrapped them around dolls, and covered her animals for “bedtime.” Even washcloths and paper towels became tiny blankets in her hands. These are called schemas — natural patterns of play where children repeat actions like folding, wrapping, covering, and sorting.
Then came the pandemic. We couldn’t visit the ocean, walk through the forest, or explore the farm. Then I realized we could bring those places to life at home. We spread out a green cloth for grass, a blue cloth for the ocean, a sandy beige for the desert, and a brown for the forest floor. With a few animals and some imagination, entire lands came alive. Suddenly, our living room became a whole world of play.
Through this play, my children were learning so much — sorting animals by land and color, exploring schemas like enveloping and covering, and most of all, exercising their imagination. Open-ended play — play with no right or wrong way, where children create their own stories and discover their own ideas.
What amazed me most is how lasting this play has been. My children, now six and four, still spend hours with blankets and animals, building worlds, inventing stories, and expanding their creativity. These simple cloths became the foundation for endless adventures.
That’s when I decided to create Little Lands: a set of thoughtfully chosen colors and natural materials designed to nurture children’s imagination. Natural organic fabrics are soft, vibrant, and sized perfectly for little hands. Wooden animals that feel real in children’s hands — warm, natural, and safe for children to touch.
Open-ended materials designed to grow with them, from the earliest schemas to the wildest imaginative play.
Our hope is that Little Lands invites children everywhere to create, explore, and build their own little worlds — over and over again.
From our family to yours, welcome to Little Lands.
